The Spring-to-Summer Freakout (and what it’s really about)
The Secret Nobody Tells You About Adulting

Hi hi,
When we were younger, the idea of being an adult had a certain sparkle to it.
Freedom. Independence. A career. A home. Perhaps traveling to places around the world on adventures.
No one really warned us about the quiet weight that comes with managing... everything.
Bills. Deadlines. Relationships. Groceries. Health insurance. Texting your friends back. Fixing the broken dishwasher. Scheduling your own dentist appointments. And on and on.
If it sometimes feels like "being an adult" is less about living your dreams and more about becoming your own full-time operations manager — that’s because it is.
Here’s the thing:
Feeling overwhelmed by the basic maintenance of life doesn't mean you're failing.
It means you're carrying a lot — and somewhere along the way, we stopped being taught how to carry it with support, community, or self-compassion.
Adulting was never meant to be effortless.
And it was never meant to be a solo performance without rest, help, or nervous system care.
This is why in my work with clients (and in my own life), we focus on nervous system regulation first — because no "five-step life hack" can work when your brain is stuck in survival mode.
You don’t need to "hustle harder" or "get your life together."
You probably just need more space to breathe — and a new way to talk to yourself.
RTT helps with that.
It gently uncovers the patterns that tell you you’re "behind" or "not enough" — and helps you rewrite them at the root.
If any of this sounds familiar, I have a few session spots open this month (on Zoom or in-person in Brooklyn).
And as always, I offer free consults if you want to talk through what’s going on.
Take good care out there. Adulting is brave work.
With love,
Jen
The Spring-to-Summer Freakout (And What It’s Really About)
May 8, 2025

Every year, like clockwork, I see it — in clients, in friends, and yes, in myself.
The spring-to-summer shift arrives with a strange urgency:
Clean out your closet. Tone up. Lighten up. Show more skin. Book more plans. Look at the Cherry Blossoms. Be seen.
Underneath all of it? A quiet panic.
If you feel it too, you’re not alone — and you’re not wrong for feeling overwhelmed by a season that’s supposed to be light and carefree.
The truth is, summer reveals the subconscious rulebooks we’ve inherited:
You must earn your right to be seen.
Your body should be different by now.
If you’re not glowing with joy, something’s wrong with you.
These beliefs aren’t just annoying — they’re deeply programmed.
They show up in our bodies, our mood, our avoidance, our perfectionism.
In Rapid Transformational Therapy, I help people uncover and unwrite the origin stories behind these internalized pressures — stories we absorbed from media, family, and a culture obsessed with performance.
Because here's the reality:
You are not “late” to your summer body.
You are not failing if you don’t feel social.
You are not broken for craving space instead of plans.
You are responding to a lifetime of invisible messaging — and it takes real work to shift those patterns.
RTT is one of the few tools I know that goes beyond surface-level affirmations and straight to the root:
The subconscious wiring that tells you you’re not ready, not enough, or not allowed unless you’re perfect.
If this time of year stirs up something complicated in you — body shame, comparison, a pressure to be “on” — know this:
You’re not imagining it. And you don’t have to muscle through it alone.
Summer session slots are now open — available virtually via Zoom, or in-person. If you're ready to approach this season differently, I’d be honored to work with you.
Free consults are available — just reach out to get started.
You deserve a summer shaped by your rhythm, not someone else’s rules.

Hi hi,
When we were younger, the idea of being an adult had a certain sparkle to it.
Freedom. Independence. A career. A home. Perhaps even trips to far off places we have always dreamed of.
No one really warned us about the quiet, heavy weight that comes with managing... everything.

If it sometimes feels like "being an adult" is less about living your dreams and more about becoming your own full-time operations manager — that’s because it is.

Feeling overwhelmed by the basic maintenance of life doesn't mean you're failing and underwater.
It means you're carrying a lot — and somewhere along the way, we stopped being taught how to carry it with support, community, or self-compassion.

It was never meant to be a solo performance without rest, help, or nervous system care.

Don’t be so hard on yourself out there. Adulting is brave work.
We are all just figuring it out as we go. We are mostly little kids in adult bodies still.

Why you feel off (even when things seem “fine”)
Hi hi,
Lately I’ve been hearing a common thread in my client sessions and amongst friends and family :
“I don’t know what’s wrong. Nothing’s technically wrong. But I don’t feel like myself. I’m going through the motions on autopilot.”
Can you relate?—You’re not alone. I can identify myself. Especially in the world right now with everything going on. Numbing out seems to be the norm.
What you’re feeling might not be stress, exactly. Or even anxiety.
It might be disconnection—from your body, your needs, your identity. A complete and NORMAL self preservation tool during turbulent times.
It’s what I call “functional burnout.”
You’re still getting things done. Still showing up.
But inside? You’re quietly gone. A shell. Going through the motions.
RTT helps get to the root of that. Get off that wheel. Help you get present and in the moment with your needs and self.
We’re not meant to white-knuckle our way through life, relationships, or reinvention. And yet so many of us do—especially when we’re the ones people count on.
Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) is a subconscious modality that helps gently uncover the beliefs and patterns that are running beneath the surface.
Things like:
- “I’m not allowed to rest.”
- “If I slow down, I’ll disappear.”
- “Other people’s needs matter more than mine.”
Once we find those roots, we can begin to rewire them.
If you’re feeling off—you’re not broken. How long do you want to keep at it?
You may just be carrying stories that no longer belong to the version of you that’s trying to emerge.
I love this topic in particular these days with social media, the news, and adulting in general.
I have sessions available this month (Zoom or in-person in NY), and I offer free consults if you want to talk through what’s going on and if you can relate.
Remember - this work is intense but not forever - we can work together in just a few sessions to see change. I work alongside therapists and this modality compliments the work you may already be doing with your Psychologist.
Thanks for being here.
More soon—and take care of your nervous system today, in whatever way you can. The world is a lot right now. Go gentle with yourself.
With love,
Jen
